Resturants that I want to visit

So i haven’t blogged much, or at all in a really long time. So anyways, I am still fundraising for my mission to madagascar, but till i update that. I thought I would start developing a list of the resturants that i want to go to. Why? Not for you, but for me, and my memory. I follow a number of foodie blogs and want to keep a list of places that i would someday like to go. And for those that don’t know me in the real world, I got to go to one of the greatest deconstructionist/avant garde/molecular gastronemy resturauants in the US: MINIBAR in DC. I will post about that soon, but till then here is my list.

1. The French Laundry
2. Per Se
3. WD50
4. Babbo
5. Morimoto
6. EL Buli
7. Alinea
8. o at the westminister westin
9. Cascina Spinasse in Seattle.

Review

As those that know me, I am interested in the emergent movement. I consider myself part of the emerging movement in the church. As I have read from a variety of people, there is alot of misinformation about this comming from brothers and sisters in Christ. Recently, Chuck Colsen made a claim that “emerging communities” don’t believe the Bible, but then failed to explain what he even meant. Aside from these attacks, there has been some amazingly good writing lately about the emerging church.
I have recently read “everything must change” by Brian McLaren, and “the New Christians” by Tony Jones. Both are really interesting and challenging books that provide a good dialoge about where the Church is going in these modern days… But then again, AL Mohler will think I am going to hell, but he will be suprised by all of us who greet him in the next.

Things that make me remember the past.

As a child, I remember when she made her trips. I have no personal connection, but things like these make me feel human. They make me feel sad. They make me realize my love and calling to mental health have a real and human impact. Pray that others have the help they need. Please read and pray. Click Here.

A week o’ clarification

So over the last week, I went through the orrientation and training for mid-term missionaries at WorldVenture. It was an amazing time. I feared comming into a week full of strangers, and found myself having a good time. I will post a log about the experience and somethings that i have been processing soon.
Till then, if you are reading this, and have not contributed, that cool, but i am looking for monthly supporters. Anywhere from 10 to 100 dollars a month. It may sound like a lot but all of it goes to me, and is probably less than most spend on eating out a month. go to the link below to contribute. Thanks yo, -Dan

Fundraising Fun

Hello All again! Well I am still planning on going to Madagascar, and luckily this weekend I had my first fundraising dinner.
It all went fairly well, for having cooked all day and some things that I had not made before, everything came out really well. And thanks to the 13 people that came and listened to my Amway spiel about sending me to Africa.
The other exciting thing is that even before the dinner, I am doing well on my support raising. I currently have 27% of my monthly commitments raised and 57% of my onetime expenses raised. So dear reader, if you want to help click the bottom link and either commit or grace me with a one-time gift 
Upcoming next week, I will be in Littleton in training with WorldVenture. I will post an update next week as to what I have learned and what is coming next for me in Madagascar.

Madagascar Fun

Hello all after a two month break or so.

Here is an update on all the goings on as of late.

Madagascar: I am currently in the support raising phase of moving to Madagascar. I am currently rising close to 18,000 for the year i will spend down there. So far, I have raised about 4,000. It is has been amazing at how generous most people have been. The bulk of the 18K is going to one-time expenses that include my round-trip ticket and training before I go.
The plan is still to go in the early fall. I have some more clarification of where I will be. I will be living and working in a town on the Northwest Coast called Mahajanga. I am going to be working with a couple who have run a school for the last 12 years in the town. I will be helping them with various things, along with developing connections and relationship to help promote and address the mental health issues of the community.
I will post more as I find out more.

Church Stuff: I am still attending a small church plant, which has been a great time. We have grown a bit, and will be shrinking a bit since we all seem to move. :) We have been doing the missonal thing in Fort Collins, and have done a couple of service projects for some elementary school children and the food bank. I am still leading the Undercroft. It is an ecumenical and open discussion group that focuses on talking about philosophical topics. It has been great to be engaged with a variety of different groups and people over the last six months.

The Dog: I still have Everett who is the greatest dog in the world; all 106 pounds of him. He will probably be the hardest thing to leave behind for a year.

I will try to update this about once a week or so with various updates and information about my preparations for Madagascar.

I’m redoing the blog

Hey yo! So I am going to be redoing my blog and thus have archived what I previously wrote. I am going to be using this mainly for updates on Madagascar. I probably will post some other random stuff. I will likely start another blog for more of my writing and philosophical musings.
Thanks yo!

The Week

I have been guilted of not calling enough. But the problem was that the conversation was always the same. If it was the same, why make the effort? Now, as the time has continued, the question of effort continues. I love him with all effort. The conversation tends to be the same, but it is different. He appreciates my driving. He loves my desire to help others. My father sacrifices his time to ensure the most of what is we have. I miss the connection, and I have more of a connection that I have ever have. If i was more profound it would mean more. Since i am profound, i am endebted for these final moments.

WTF?! One Step Closer

madagascar lemur attack

Originally uploaded by mat skene.

Today, I had an interview with a missions/aid orginization. I was accepted, or as they called it “Endorsed.” What does this mean?
I am moving to Madagascar in the comming months. Not years, but months. I have a lot of stuff to accomplish, but soon once the training is done, and the monies in, i will move, for at least a year, to madagascar. And that excites me a great deal. If you know me, i will soon ask you for support. I am sorry to put you all in that position, but alas, it will be an amazing oppurtunity to help a developing country in providing quality mental health care to their population…
Oh yeah, and there is leamurs.

More to come.

A post to consumerism

So, I am typically against consumerism and hate commercials that are cleverly inserted into the programing I enjoy. Hmm… after 30 Rock this week, I feel that I need to buy a Wii and see Bee Movie. But I really enjoyed this JC Penny Ad.
